A good large antique oak box dating from the late 18th / early 19th century. It is very well made with an attractive single piece top with cleated ends. It has a blacksmith made lock plate and catch with its original working key. It has a moulded plinth around the base and sits slightly raised on wooden runners to keep the floor dry. It is a good size for a coffee table, end of the bed storage or toy trunk.
It is in good condition for its age. It is strong and sturdy and it is generally clean and tidy inside. The floor has been replaced at some point in its life and there are a few signs of old woodworm in the back moulding which has all been treated as a precaution. There are signs of use and age, some general knocks and marks marks but nothing detrimental and it has a good aged patina and displays very well. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
