A lovely large oak mule chest with a concealed drawer to the base. It likely dates from the mid 18th Century and the drawer opens on side runners which is a good indication of an early piece. It has a traditional panelled front and panelled sides and top. It is a plain example which has avoided being overcarved and has a lovely warm patina. The lid opens to reveal a large storage area with its original candle box and ring hinges.
It is in good original condition throughout and is strong and sturdy. The back is clean and the hinges are strong. The drawer opens smoothly and the interior is generally clean and tidy with a few small old marks. There has been an old repair on the back of the lid but no major damages and it has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
