A superb oak Lambing Chair dating from the early to mid 18th Century. It has a square panelled back with beautiful carved decoration, two large scrolling arms encasing side panels and a planked seat. The base is also panelled and the front is carved to match. There is a large drawer to one side with a wooden handle and internally it is divided into four sections.
On the rear of the chair are small carved initials "GR" which are likely to be the maker's signature.
It is a rare piece of furniture and the colour and patina of the oak is superb. It is in very good condition for its age and the whole piece is strong and sturdy. There are of course signs of age and use, some marks and knocks, stains and small chips. There have been some old repairs but nothing untoward or detrimental. There are some minor signs of historic worm around the feet and base which has all been treated as a precaution and haven't affected the chair structurally or aesthetically. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
