Product Details

A fine example of a Georgian oak dresser dating from the late 18th / early 19th century. It most likely originates from Wales and is excellent quality. The base contains three drawers above another central drawer and two dummy drawers flanked by cupboards. Each drawer has brass plate handles and the cupboards have small brass knobs. The cupboards have lovely crossbanded detail on the doors and open to a plain interior with planked floor. The dresser has its original plate rack with moulded cornice, three shelves and four small spice drawers, each with brass knobs and matching diamond-shaped bone escutcheons. The rack has a fully planked back with wonderful wide original planks.

It is in very good condition throughout and displays beautifully. It is not without signs of age and use but this has all helped to develop a beautiful rich patina over the years. There are some old stains and ink marks on the top surface but nothing detrimental. There are some areas of historic woodworm in the back of the base which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the dresser structurally or aesthetically. The bottom of the back legs have worn over time so they have been repaired with a small block on the tips at some point. The handles are not original but suit the piece well. There are no major damages, the drawers open well and the interior of the cupboards and drawers are generally clean and tidy. The dresser has been given a thorough clean and gentle polish and is ready for use.
