A good example of an English Oak Coffer dating from the mid to late 18th Century. It has a traditional panelled construction standing on four block feet. The front is decorated with carvings and triangular motifs in the front panels. The lid opens on metal hinges to a simple boarded interior.
It is in good condition and has developed a lovely rich patina. There are some signs of age and use, some knocks and marks and minor old shrinkage splits but nothing untoward. The interior is clean and tidy and the whole piece is strong and sturdy. It has had its original ring hinges removed at some point and replaced with the current ones but it isn't detrimental and overall it displays very well.
