A good example of a large english Oak Coffer dating from the mid to late 18th Century. It has a traditional panelled construction standing on four block feet. The front is decorated with a simple frieze rail of arched carvings and some further carvings in the centre of the front three panels. The lid opens on ring hinges and the boarded interior has a small candle compartment.
It is in good condition and has developed a beautiful rich patina. There are some signs of age and use, some knocks and marks, some minor shrinkage splits and a couple of old repairs but nothing untoward. There are some minor signs of old worm which is all historic and has been treated as a precaution. The boards in the bottom have been replaced at some point in its life but are strong and sturdy. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
