Product Details

A good example of a small english Oak Coffer dating from the mid 18th Century. It has a traditional panelled construction standing on four block feet. The front is decorated with a simple frieze rail of arched carvings and further diamond motifs in the front panels. The lid opens on ring hinges and it has a metal closing panel and latch.

It is in good condition and has developed a beautiful rich patina. There are some signs of age and use, some knocks and marks and some old repaired shrinkage splits in the top panels but nothing detrimental. There are some signs of old worm which is all historic but has been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the piece structurally or aesthetically. There is a nice old blacksmith made strap holding together an old repair to one back leg and there are a few other old repairs but nothing detrimental or untoward and the whole piece is strong and sturdy and displays well. It has been cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
