Product Details

A good example of an 18th Century english oak coffer with a traditional panelled construction. It has attractive carved diamonds on the front panels and a carved scrolling border above. The flat lid opens on blacksmith made ring hinges to a plain interior with a small candle box. It is a very pretty well balanced example on tall legs and it has its original blacksmith made catch and lock panel.

It is in good original condition and has developed a beautiful rich patina. There are signs of age and use, some old repairs and signs of historic worm in the bottom of the legs which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the piece structurally or aesthetically. The floor has been replaced at some point but has been done well with thick elm boards. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
