A good example of an 18th Century english oak coffer with a traditional panelled construction. It has attractive inlaid diamonds on the front panels and inlaid strips on the sides. The flat lid opens on blacksmith made strap hinges to a plain interior with boarded floor.
It is in good original condition and has developed a beautiful rich patina. It has avoided ever being overcarved and is a very pretty well balanced example. There are signs of age and use and signs of historic worm in the back panels which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the piece structurally or aesthetically. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
