A good example of an 18th Century english oak coffer with a traditional panelled construction. It has an attractive frieze rail of arched carvings and lovely naive circular swirling patterns on the front panels. The lid is on its original ring hinges and opens to reveal a boarded floor and small candle box.
It is in good original condition and has developed a beautiful rich patina. It has avoided ever being overcarved and is a very pretty well balanced example. There are some signs of age and use, some old historic shrinkage splits and some slight wear to the finish but nothing detrimental. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
