A good example of a small english oak bible box dating from the 18th Century. It has a nicely carved front with naive geometric patterns. It has a flat top and small moulded plinth around the base. It has a metal latch and lock plate and the lid opens on small ring hinges.
It is in good condition and has developed a lovely rich patina. There are some signs of age and use, some old marks, splits and there are signs of historic worm which has all been treated as a precaution. The lock is not original and it is likely that the hinges have been replaced some time ago but overall it displays well.
