A fine example of an 18th Century solid Silver tankard of plain form on a round foot with scrolling handle. It has engraved initial on one side which looks like a H. The tankard is good quality, weighing approximately 288g.

It is clearly hallmarked for London, 1770. It has a maker's mark for J.S. which is Listed by Grimwade under Unregistered Marks [mark no.3685]. It may have been recorded in the lost 1758-1773 Largeworkers' Register.
It is in good condition for its age. There are no major damages and it displays beautifully. There are some faint internal marks and a few light surface marks and a small dent near the base (see photo) but nothing detrimental. It has been gently cleaned and polished is ready for use.
