Product Details

A superb 18th Century kneehole desk made of oak with an arrangement of 9 drawers around a central cupboard, set back into the kneehole. It is an excellent quality piece and the top has a beautifully crossbanded edge with shaped corners. It stands on small bracket feet and has its original brass carrying handles which indicate it was made to be moved and may have belonged to military personnel.

Each drawer has its original brass ring handles and matching escutcheons. The drawers are oak lined and three of the bottom drawers have an additional base liner which sits inside the drawer and provides a secret compartment below. The cupboard door opens to reveal a shelved interior.

It is in excellent original condition and has developed a wonderful rich patina. The drawers open smoothly and are generally clean and tidy inside. There are signs of age and use, various small knocks, marks, minor splits and a few old repairs but nothing detrimental or untoward. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
