An English oak joint stool dating from the mid 17th Century. It has a pegged construction and stands on baluster turned legs joined by stretchers. The rails have simple carved decoration.
It is in good condition for its age and is strong and sturdy. It has a lovely aged patina and is a very characterful piece with a rough gnarly texture to the legs and a worn top with lots of signs of age and use. It is likely that at some point in its life the top of the stool may have been replaced but it has been done a long time ago. There is an old repaired split in the top and some signs of water damage but overall it still displays well. It has been cleaned and lightly polished and is ready for use.
