A superb set of 6 dining chairs dating from the early 19th Century. They are ebonised and are a typically stylish regency design - a gently curving back with rope twist top and mid rails and sabre legs. This continuous curving line formed by the sides of the back, the seat rail and the chair legs are essential features of a 'Trafalgar'. This design was popular around 1810 with naval references, such as the rope-twist back rail, having been popular in the time of Lord Nelson.
The chairs have drop-in seats which have been re-webbed and covered in calico ready to be upholstered.
The chairs are in excellent condition for their age and are strong and sturdy. They have been re-polished while maintaining the attractive wear on the ebonised finish. They have been well looked after and maintained over the years and as such have a few old repairs but nothing detrimental. There are some minor historic signs of worm in some of the chairs which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn’t affected the chairs structurally or aesthetically.
