A beautiful adjustable duet stand dating from the early 19th century. It has a double-sided sloping top with wooden rests and brass pegs. Each side can be illuminated by extendable brass candle sconces and the top rotates on the base. It stands on a turned rosewood column with triform base and scrolling feet. The height of the stand can be adjusted by pulling a small brass handle out that allows for the stand to be moved up and down on a notched ratchet.
It is in good condition for its age and is strong and sturdy. There are some signs of age and use, some minor marks and knocks and some old repairs but nothing detrimental or untoward. The stand and column are both rosewood but the base is oak so perhaps has been changed at some point but it suits the piece well and it displays beautifully.
