A good example of an antique Wheelback carver chair dating from the mid 19th century. It has a shaped elm seat with scrolling arms. The hoop back encloses tapering spindles and distinctive wheel motif. It stands on turned legs joined by a H-stretcher.
The chair stands approximately 34" (86cm) high and is 21" (53cm) wide across the arms. The seat is 17" (43cm) high and 15 1/2" (39cm) deep.
It is in good original condition and is strong and sturdy with no major damages. There are of course signs of age and use and some marks and light knocks on the seat and around the legs but nothing detrimental. It has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
