Georgian Oak Dresser
A good example of an early country oak dresser dating from the late 18th century. The base contains seven drawers arranged around a central cupboard. The drawers have brass plate handles and matching escutcheons which, although later replacements, suit the dresser and look very nice. The cupboard has its original key and the doors open to reveal a shelf supported by a turned column.
The dresser has a large rack with three central shelves flanked by two cupboards, each with a working key which opens to reveal shaped shelves. The dresser is set on a plinth base and has attractive inlaid banding on the drawer and cupboard fronts.
It is in good condition throughout and is a good sturdy piece of furniture. It is not without some signs of age and use but this has all helped to develop a beautiful rich patina over the years. The floor inside the bottom cupboard has a small hole near the front (see photo) but there are no other major damages and the drawers and doors open well. It is a well balanced piece with a wonderful colour and it displays beautifully. It has been given a thorough clean and light wax and is ready for use.
