Victorian Walnut Writing Slope
with Secret Drawers
A lovely antique writing slope with brass corners, brass escutcheon and matching brass cartouche. Inside, the box is fitted with a good quality writing surface with gold tooling. There is also a removable pen tray and one glass inkwell. There is a secret compartment below the leather that springs open by lifting a piece of wood next to the inkwell, revealing 3 small secret drawers.
It is in excellent condition for its age and comes with its original working key. The brass has been lightly polished and it displays very well inside and out. There is some wear to the writing surface, particularly along the crease and the front brass escutcheon has been replaced. There are no major damages to the wood exterior and the patination is beautiful. There are some small knocks and minor signs of age and use but nothing that affects the overall appearance of the box.
