Georgian Stripped Pine Dresser
A superb example of a large Westcountry stripped pine dresser dating from the early 19th century. The base has three large drawers, each with ebonised wooden knobs, above two large shelved cupboards. The doors have a working lock and key and matching smaller wooden knobs. The large plate rack has three deep shelves and enormous early back boards.
It is in excellent condition throughout and is a good sturdy piece of furniture. It has been thoroughly cleaned and has a nice smooth waxed finish while leaving the wonderful aged patina. The drawers open and run well and it is clean and tidy inside. It is not without signs of age and use, some minor repairs and restorations but nothing detrimental. There are some historic woodworm holes in the inner shelf but this hasn't affected it structurally or aesthetically and they have been treated as a precuation. There are a number of small old holes drilled in the sides of the base, most likely ventilation holes if it was once perhaps storing food (see photos) but they don't in our opinion detract from the dresser at all. It displays beautifully and is ready for use.
