Clarice Cliff Trefoil Bonbon Dish

in the 'Secrets' Pattern

circa 1930

A superb example of a popular Clarice Cliff pattern beautifully hand painted onto a trefoil shaped bonbon dish with chromium plated handle. The pattern shows a stylised coastal landscape with red-roofed cottages and tree within green and yellow banded border.

Approximate Measurements :

Diameter : 8 1/2" (22cm)

Height : 4" (10cm) inc handle

The dish is in good condition. There are no chips, cracks or restoration and the colours have remained bright and vibrant. There are some light surface marks on the bowl commensurate with age and use and some small paint losses but nothing that detracts from the bowl. There is also some faint glaze crazing across the piece but nothing detrimental. The handle leans ever so slightly to one side as the nut probably needs tightening a bit. Overall it displays very well.

It is fully stamped and signed on the underneath with "Fantasque. Hand Painted. Bizarre by Clarice Cliff. Newport Pottery England"
