Clarice Cliff 'Josefina' Tea for Two
in the bonjour style
A superb tea set designed by Clarice Cliff in the 1930s consisting of a teapot, sugar bowl, milk jug, 2 cups and saucers and a side plate. The set is decorated in the rare 'Josefina' pattern depicting pink flowers and green and brown oak leaves surrounded by stylised abstract blue lines. Each piece is fully stamped and signed on the underside "Fantasque. Hand Painted. Bizarre by Clarice Cliff. Newport Pottery England"
Approximate Measurements :
Cup Height : 2 1/2" (6cm)
Teapot height : 5” (13cm)
Teapot width : 2 1/2” (6cm)
Teapot spout to handle : 7” (18cm)
Saucer Diameter : 5 3/4" (15cm)

The set is in excellent condition for its age. The colours have remained bright and vibrant and the pieces have been well looked after with minimal wear. There is some minor glaze crazing in areas. There is a small chip on the spout of the milk jug (see photo) and a minor scuff on the rim of one cup (see photo) but otherwise there are no damages or restoration and no major paint losses.
A fine addition to anybody's collection. The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions at all please ask.
