Red Signal Lantern
early 20th century
Good example of an original signal lamp, possibly used on the railways or by the roadside. It has a handle to enable hanging and the top part of the lamp lifts up and reveals that it is fitted with its original oil burner inside. The sides have glass panels in them, one being red, and the lamp has a metal framework around it to protect the glass.
Height : 15" (38cm) excluding handle
Width : 7" (18cm)
Depth : 7" (18cm)
The lamp is fully authentic and has a lovely patina. It is in good original condition with no major damages. The glass is in good condition with some nibbles around the edges but no damage to the panes. I have not tested the oil burner but the wick turner works well. The lamp has obviously been used and has picked up knocks and small dents and some areas of paint loss but overall it is a good clean and sturdy lamp. It has been lightly cleaned and polished and is ready for display.
