Victorian Desk Stationery Box

Circa 1890

Beautiful stationery box of the highest quality with a gorgeous aged patina and a sloped front with brass escutcheon.

It opens up to reveal a series of racks for holding papers and letters, each ornately shaped. There is a calendar with paper days, dates and months - all of which are complete and original. There is a pen rest and two brass topped inkwells. In the side door is a writing slab which wipes clean and a series of pins which can have ribbon attached to make a web to hold papers and documents etc.

What makes this box really special is its two secret compartments. The calendar section lifts out to reveal a large compartment at the back of the box and there is a sliding drawer at the bottom of the box.

It is been superbly well made and although it has been used it has obviously been very well looked after over the years. It is in excellent original condition and the only point to note is that a small section of wood is broken on the writing pad however it can be turned over either way so the damage is on the back and unseen (see photo). Please also note there is no key for the lock.

Approximate Measurements:

Height : 12"

Width : 13"

Depth : 10"

One of the nicest and most complete examples I have seen. This box would look superb on any desk or in any office.

Please have a good look at the photos for the best description and if you have any questions at all please ask.
