Giant Union Flag
Manufactured by Porters Bros, Liverpool
Approximately 15ft x 7ft 6
Amazing stitched union flag of the highest quality. Stamped on the flag is 'Porters Bros. Liverpool'. Considered the finest flag maker in the country, Porters have made flags for everyone from Scott of the Antarctic to Princess Diana. The drape for Winston Churchill's coffin - Porters. Flags used in the D-Day Landings - Porters. The Union Flag atop 10 Downing Street - Porters.
This flag has a thick rope running up the side so would have originally been made for a flag pole. It has the military arrow printed on it as well as 1987 Liverpool so I can only imagine it must have been on a warship at some time due to its size and history. Porter's were often commissioned to make flags for the navy and their flags have adorned many Air Craft Carriers.
Also stamped on the flag is '15x7'6' 'Union Jack' '0330 99'.
The flag is in good clean condition and there is no visible major damage or staining to the main body of the flag. There are some small holes and tears along the material which houses the rope on the side of the flag, gained from use.
The flag really is huge. I have never seen a flag this big and it's a really great size because, being 7ft 6, when displayed lengthways it fills a standard wall floor to ceiling so is great for display in a shop or restaurant.
A fascinating piece of history and a wonderful item. It will be a long time until something like this comes along again! It is a very difficult thing to photograph due to its size but please have a good look at the photo to gauge some idea of its scale!
