F.H. Ayres Croquet Set

circa 1920s

Good quality croquet set dating from the early 20th Century manufactured by renowned makers or sporting goods, F.H. Ayres. The set is contained within its original pine box with metal strapping and handles. The set comes with 4 box wood croquet mallets with octagonal ash handles (to help a player 'feel' the allignment of the mallet in play). To complete the set there are 4 balls in the standard colours, six metal hoops - one with a red top and one with a blue top - two posts with coloured bands indicating the order of play and 4 matching croquet clips.

The set is in good usable condition. It is not a brand new set and is almost 100 years old so please do not buy it expecting it to be as new. There are various marks and signs of frequent use on the balls and mallets and patches of rust on some of the hoops. Two of the clips have a top part missing although they are still usable and it is worth noting one mallet has a slightly warped handle. I've photographed this specifically - it doesn't make it unusable although perhaps slightly more difficult than a perfectly straight one! I'm sure it will all add to the fun and games!

It is a standard adult size set with the mallets being 3ft long. The box is 39" long by 11" deep and 11" tall.

Certainly a wonderful set to grace anybody's lawn. The best description I can give comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions at all please ask.
