Dollond Surveyor's Level
Beautiful antique surveyor's level manufactured by Dollond in the mid 19th Century. It is made entirely of brass and is engraved 'Dollond, London'. It is a high quality instrument with a single draw scope above a liquid filled level. It comes with its original brass lens cover and has a fitting on the base for tightening onto a small tripod or stand.
It comes in its original fitted mahogany box which has a gorgeous aged patina and lots of signs of wear and use. Inside the box is a paper label for 'G.Dollond. Optical, Mathematical and Philosophical Instrument Maker to Her Majesty'.
It truly is a stunning instrument and it is in excellent condition. The brass has been polished to a high standard and the parts cleaned and lubricated. The lenses are undamaged and produce a clear image however I'm sure they would benefit from a light clean and it is being sold as a decorative / collector's item rather than an accurate scientific instrument. The box is strong and sturdy with its original brass latches but it does not have a key. There are some general knocks and marks and small splits around the box but nothing detrimental.
