Set of 4 Victorian Mahogany Dining Chairs
Good quality set of dining chairs dating from the late 19th Century, influenced in design by the Aesthetic Movement. They are made of Mahogany with a simple but stylish back carved with flower roundels and lines. They have turned and fluted tapering front legs with splayed rear legs. The chairs have recently been re-upholstered in a good quality stylish fabric in a light blue colour.
The chairs are stamped on the underneath with a maker "Sopwith & Co. Newcastle on Tyne".
They are in excellent condition with a rich patina. The seats are firm and comfortable and the joints are strong. There are a few minor knocks and light scuffs around the legs and some minor age-related marks here and there but nothing detrimental. In one chair there is a small split in the wood on the back (see photo). They have all been cleaned and lightly polished and they are a good sturdy set of chairs, ready for use.
The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions please ask.
