Adjustable Music Stand

Circa 1880

Manufactured by John Carter, London

Gorgeous Victorian music stand made of rich mahogany with an extending brass pole and an ornate cast metal lions feet base.

The stand is fully adjustable. The wooden stand itself fully swivels and tilts back and forth and the brass pole moves up and down to raise or lower the stand.

It has a makers plate to the reverse which reads; "John Carter. Trade Mark. Literary Machine. 6a New Cavendish Street. Portland Place. London W". The numbers 896A are also marked on the back.

Measurements :

Stand diameter : 18"

Height of the music rest : 11"

Total maximum height fully extended : 52"

It is a good size which would suit most people. At full extension it is perfectly useable for a standing adult.

It is in excellent original condition. It has been well used and cared for and as such there are some small signs of wear commensurate with age. However, the stand moves freely and operates as it should and the actually rest is a fairly tight fit with little slack. The brass pole has been polished to a nice standard and the wood has a beautiful deep patina.
