Victorian Hinks Oil Lamp
Beautiful original Oil Lamp complete with a Hinks No.2 'Rise and Fall' Duplex Burner. The base of the oil lamp is composed of a brass reeded corinthian column sat on a stepped base. The font is clear cut glass, tapering slightly to give the lamp a nice shape. It comes with a clear glass chimney and the most stunning cranberry glass shade. It is a hand-blown frilled shade, swirled with vaseline lines and a vaseline finish. The brass collar of the lamp is stamped Hinks & Sons Patent.
Approximate Measurements :
Total Height : 29" (74cm)
Height of Column : 11" (28cm)
Diameter of Font : 6" (15cm)
Diameter of Shade : 7 1/2" (19cm)
The lamp is in excellent condition for its age. The brass work has been polished to a high standard and it displays beautifully. The burner is in good shape - the wick turners move smoothly and the snuffers also work. The shade is clean and undamaged with just a few small natural bubbles within the glass. There are no major cracks or damages to the glass font apart from some small nibbles around the top edge. The oil lamp is untested and I have not had it burning with paraffin in. However it appears to be in good order and I see no reason why it should not work as designed.
