Victorian Owl Pottery Oil Lamp Base
Lovely pottery oil lamp modelled as an owl perched on a naturalistic base, with inset glass eyes. It dates from the late 19th century and has a Rd Diamond Mark which places it to July 1881. It is unmarked as far as a maker is concerned but it is similar in design to Sitzendorf or Whitman & Roth.
On top of the owl's head is a brass oil lamp collar with screw thread. The thread appears to be in good condition and could surely be made into an oil lamp with the proper parts if desired.
It is in excellent condition for its age with no major damage. There are just a few small chips to the flowers on the base (see photo). It displays beautifully and looks adorable and is certainly a lovely piece.
