Georgian Mahogany Chest on Chest
A fine example of a Georgian mahogany Tallboy dating from the late 18th / early 19th century. This impressive piece is in good original condition with its original brass swan neck handles. It is well balanced, simple in design with greek key molding below the cornice and the whole piece sits on bracket feet. The lower section contains three graduating drawers and the top section contains two short over three long drawers. The top section comes off to split the piece into two to make transport easier.
The whole piece is in good original condition and has developed a beautiful patina with a deep rich colour. It is strong and sturdy and drawers are generally clean and tidy and all run well, many having had their runners recently replaced or repaired. There are general signs of age and use, some minor knocks and marks and some small old splits in the sides but nothing detrimental. There is a small chip at the back of the middle piece of molding (see photo) but otherwise no major damage and it displays beautifully.
