Blair Stereo Hawk-Eye Camera
Great vintage Stereoscopic camera manufactured around the turn of the Century with its original brown leather carrying case. . The camera itself is cased in wood which is covered by a black leather type material. The camera front folds down and the lenses and bellows slide forwards along a metal track and is able to be locked in place. The whole camera front can be raised up by turning a metal key on the left hand side. There is a metal plaque between the lenses which reads "Bausch & Lomb Optical Co. Rochester. N.Y." and this is also engraved on the brass front too. The aperture can be adjusted using the dial between the lenses. The shutter leaver is located above the left lens and this is what allows for a picture to be taken. Either side of the lenses are air operated shutter controls to enable a picture to be taken remotely. The viewfinder is on the front of the wooden platform.
The back of the camera comes off to allow for film to be inserted. Inside the back plate it is marked "Blair Camera Co. Rochester. N.Y." and also "Patented Feb 25 1890. Nov 5 1895". The bottom of the camera is stamped '995' - perhaps a serial number.
The camera comes with its original leather case. It has a brass lock and is lined with green velvet. It has a retailer's stamp which reads "The London Stereoscopic & Photographic Co. Limited. 105 & 108 Regent St. London. W"
The camera is untested and is being sold as seen. However the shutter lever works and both shutters make a good crisp clicking sound when the lever is pressed. The bellows are in good condition with no visible holes or damage. Cosmetically it is in good condition for its age and it certainly displays beautifully. Some of the leather around one bottom corner has come away (see photo) and in the back of the camera there is a small piece of wood trim which has chipped (see photo). Some of the chromed metal has small spots of tarnishing but nothing major. Optically I'm sure the lenses would benefit from a clean. I have not looked through them but I can see some spots of dirt on them.
