18th Century Oak Corner Cupboard
A superb architectural barrel-back oak corner cupboard dating from the mid 18th Century. It has a pair of arched glazed doors enclosing a painted interior with shaped shelves. The doors are flanked by columns below an overhanging cornice with dentil molding. The cupboard is low waisted with a pair of small doors in the bottom part enclosing a further painted and shelved interior. of the cupboard has with two panelled doors and a shelved interior. The cupboard does split into two sections at the middle making it easy to move and transport.
The provenance states that the cupboard was purchased in the 1964 from a Yorkshire manor which was built in the 1740s and the cupboard was original to the house.
It is in excellent condition for its age and displays beautifully. There have been some repairs and restorations over the years, the interior has been repainted at some point and there is a small crack in one pane of glass. There are other general signs of age and use but nothing detrimental and it comes with its original working key. It has been cleaned and given a light coat of wax to retain its natural aged patina and it is ready for use.
