18th Century Oak Livery Cupboard
A good quality Georgian oak livery cupboard dating from the late 18th Century. It has two nicely panelled cupboard doors with brass handles and bone escutcheons that open to a large interior with rows of wooden hanging pegs. Below this are three drawers, two small and one long, with brass plate handles and bone escutcheons. The top two drawers are dummy fronts to allow a deeper hanging space in the cupboard above. The cupboard stands on bracket feet and is a good quality piece with panelled ends and columns flanking the doors. It also comes with its original working key for the cupboard doors.
It is a versatile piece of furniture - perfect for use as a wardrobe and additional hanging rails could be added but it could also be shelved to allow for linen storage or food storage. The cupboard splits into two parts for easier transport.
It is in very good condition for its age and displays well. It is strong and sturdy, the interior is clean and tidy and the drawers open smoothlyThere are signs of age and use, some light knocks, splits and general marks, some minor repairs and old shrinkage splits in the panelled doors but nothing untoward or detrimental.
