Antique Oak Clerk's Desk
A lovely country oak bureau / writing desk dating from the 19th century. The sloped front encloses a fitted interior with an arrangement of 6 open pigeon holes. Below this are two long drawers with turned wooden knobs. The desk stands on square tapering legs with attractive carved fretwork brackets.
It is in good condition and the oak has developed a wonderful rich colour over the years. It has been thoroughly cleaned and gently polished, retaining the original patina. The interior is in good condition although there are some old ink stains and it is missing it's lock. The drawers open smoothly and are generally clean and tidy. There are the usual signs of age and use and some minor marks and knocks and a small ink stain on the sloped front but nothing detrimental. The piece is strong and sturdy and displays very well.
