Georgian Oak Potboard Dresser
Good example of a period oak dresser dating from the late 18th / early 19th century. The base has three drawers arranged above a beautifully carved frieze. The drawers have brass plate handles which, although are not original, match the period and style of the dresser well. It stands on turned legs and block feet with an open potboard base. It has its original plate rack with three open shelves with grooves for standing plates. The rack is not boarded but has singular strips of wood between the shelves to give added support and strength.
It is in good condition throughout and is a clean sturdy piece of furniture. It is not without some signs of age and use and some light marks and stains on the top surface but this has all helped to develop a beautiful rich patina over the years. The drawers are clean and tidy inside and all open well, having recently had the runners repaired or replaced. It is a nice petite size and although the rack has likely been reduced in height at some point, the proportions of the dresser are very attractive. It has been well maintained and has been given a thorough clean and gentle wax and is ready for the home.
