Antique Pocket Barometer
by Callaghan, London
Very nice example of an antique pocket barometer in its original leather case by a good quality London maker. The barometer itself is cased in brass with a brass loop to enable it to be attached to a chain and the face is marked with the maker's name "Callaghan. 23A New Bond St. Corner of Conduit St. London".
It comes with its original protective leather case, lined with velvet. The top of the case is initialled "J.D". The press-catch has been repaired and the lid-lining has been replaced but the hinge is in good order and overall the case displays well.
The barometer is in good condition for its age. The glass is undamaged and has no major surface scratches or chips. The face is generally clean and clear to read with some tarnishing on the silvered dial. There are a few small knocks around the brass casing and some light scratches on the reverse. The brass has also tarnished but it displays very nicely. It appears to be in good working order - I have done the 'bag test' and it moves as expected. It will need to be calibrated to the correct pressure on arrival.
Approximate Measurements :
Diameter of Barometer : 1 3/4" (4.5cm)
