Victorian Oak Pedestal Desk

A beautiful Victorian oak desk of good large proportions. It has an arrangement of 8 drawers around a central kneehole with arched frieze. Each drawer has its original turned knobs and the locks are stamped VR for Queen Victoria. The reverse side of the desk has been made with false drawers, each with a brass escutcheon, so the desk looks just as good from any side - perfect for using as a centre piece rather than against a wall. The top of the desk has a good quality green leather writing surface with a gold tooled edge.

The kneehole is a good size for working at, measuring approximately 17" (43cm) wide x 28" (71cm) high.

The desk is in good condition for its age and has been well looked after. It has a lovely rich patina and the drawers open well. The inside of the drawers are generally clean and tidy with just some minor ink stains. There are some normal light signs of age and use, some knocks around the kneehole and light surface scratches but nothing detrimental and the leather surface is in good condition. The desk has been cleaned and polished and displays beautifully ready for use.
