Antique Desktop Stationery Box

Circa 1900

A beautiful antique desktop stationery box with its original key. The box is made of oak and it has a brass shield shape cartouche and matching escutcheons. The top lifts up and the doors open to reveal a series of racks for holding papers and letters. There is also a pen tray, slope for stamps and a small round glass inkwell. The lid has a series of leather holders for pens etc which currently house a page turner, quill and pen. The doors are strung with elastic to hold other papers. At the bottom of the box is a pull out leather writing slope which is released by pushing a pen down through a hole under the pen tray.

It has been very well made and although it has been used it has obviously been well looked after over the years. It is in good original condition and the oak has a lovely aged patina. There are signs of age and use and some small chips around the base but nothing detrimental and overall it displays very nicely.
