Large Victorian Mahogany Desk
A superb 19th Century desk made of mahogany with an arrangement of 9 drawers around a central kneehole. There is a raised shaped gallery along three sides and the front corners of the desk are beautifully curved. Each drawer has its original small turned knobs and the desk stands on squat bun feet with ceramic castors. The design, partiularly the curved corners, makes it likely that it was originally on a ship.
The desk is in excellent condition and is clean and tidy throughout. The timber is top quality and the patina on the mahogany is wonderful. The drawers open well and are in good clean condition. There are some minor signs of wear and age, some small knocks and light surface scratches but nothing detrimental. There have been some small repairs over the years to veneer around the drawers but overall it displays beautifully and is ready for use.
