18th Century Oak Coffer
A nice example of an early Oak Coffer with a panelled construction standing on four feet. The panelled front has attractive geometric mouldings set inside the panels and it has a planked hinged lid. It is generally clean and tidy inside with its original floor.
It dates from the mid to late 18th Century and is in excellent original condition. It has developed a beautiful rich patina and is strong and sturdy. It has avoided being overcarved and is a very pretty example with tall feet.
There are signs of age and use and there are some signs of historic woodworm which have all been treated as a precaution and are not detrimental. The lock has been changed at some point and a new brass escutcheon fixed to the outside. A back foot has been repaired and had the bottom part replaced at some point but it has been done very well. The hinges are strong and sturdy, there are no major damages and it displays beautifully.
