Superb Georgian Welsh Oak Dresser
A fine example of a Georgian oak dresser dating from the early 19th century. It most likely originates from Wales and is excellent quality. The base contains three drawers with three more central dummy drawers flanked by a pair of cupboards. Each drawer and cupboard has its original small brass handles and diamond-shaped bone escutcheons. The cupboards have fan shaped motifs in the corner of the panels which really set the whole piece off. The dresser has its original plate rack with molded cornice, three shelves and fully planked back. It is set on square bracket feet with pierced fretwork detail across the front corners.
It is in very good condition throughout and is a clean sturdy piece of furniture. It is not without signs of age and use but this has all helped to develop a beautiful rich patina over the years. There are some dents and dinks in the brass handles and some minor old splits across the fronts of the dummy drawers. There are some areas of historic woodworm, particularly in one bottom side panel, which has been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the dresser structurally or aesthetically. There are no major damages, the drawers open well and the interior of the cupboards and drawers are generaly clean and tidy. The dresser has been given a thorough clean and gentle polish and is ready for use.
