Antique Elm Settle

A beautiful 19th Century elm high back settle with shaped arms and a planked curved back, originating from the Westcountry. It has a lovely patina and traces of its original green paint throughout. It is a good large size, big enough for two people to sit on comfortably but still narrow enough to not take up too much space.

It is in good condition for its age and is strong and sturdy. There are signs of age and wear and many signs of historic worm throughout the piece. Where necessary small repairs and restorations have been sympathetically made over the years, including a replacement piece of wood at the top of one side and the bottom of another side has been replaced. The lower back boards underneath the seat have also been replaced with pine ones at some point. All the old worm has been treated as a precaution and further treated with a wood hardener to capture the piece in its original state while making it strong and sturdy and usable for years to come. The whole piece has been cleaned and given a light wax and is ready for the home.
