Fine example of a good quality mid 19th Century brass microscope. The microscope tilts and has a focus knob on the side of the main tube. It has a square stage with a slide clip and below the stage is a large adjustable mirror.
The microscope is signed on the front of the main tube "Woolley & Sons. Market St. Manchester". It comes with a lacquered brass objective lens and a good quality eyepiece lens. It measures approximately 16" tall.
The microscope stands on a wooden base measuring approximately 5" x 8" and is secured in place by a screw underneath.
It appears to be in good working order and I have set it up and tested it with a few old slides (see photo). I'm sure the lenses would benefit from a clean and there are a few small specks of dirt but they produce a clear and bright image all the same and the microscope was easy to focus. Although in working order it is really being sold as a decorative / collectors item rather than an accurate scientific instrument.
The microscope is in good condition for its age and the brass has been lightly cleaned and polished. It has been used and will have normal signs of wear so please don't expect it to be like new. There are areas of tarnishing where it has been handled and there are some small knocks and light scratches on the base but nothing detrimental.
The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions at all please ask.
