Antique Apothecary Scales

Circa 1900
A lovely set of antique balance beam scales contained within their original box. There is a maker's / retailer's plaque on the top which reads "Sangers Ltd. Shopfitters. 258 Euston Rd. NW1".
The scales are made of brass with glass pans. The brass beam reads 'Class B. To weigh 2oz'. They screw into the top of the box for easy use and pack away neatly into the drawer below.
There are various old weights that come with the scales that measure in grains and ounces that would have allowed chemists to measure to a very fine degree of accuracy. They also come with a small pair of tweezers.
Measurements :
Box : 11 1/2" (29cm) x 6" (15cm)
Height when assembled : 14 1/2" (37cm)
The whole set is in good original condition. The box has been lightly cleaned and polished to retain its aged patina and the brass too has been lightly polished. There are knocks and scuffs on the box as are to be expected but this adds to its authenticity and shows that it has been a genuine working, used item. The scales do balance well but are not sold as an accurate scientific instrument, only as a collectors / display piece.
The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions please ask.
