Taxidermy Fox Stalking a Rabbit

Circa 1880
In the style of Jeffries of Carmarthen
Fine study of a fox hunting a rabbit, set in a naturalistic setting. The fox has been superbly well mounted and is beautifully positioned on a rocky mound surrounded by natural foliage while a frightened rabbit crouches hidden below him. The fox is expressive and in superb condition. The glass casing has ensured he has been excellently preserved and his fur is thick and glossy. The only thing to note is some slight wear on the top of his ears. The newspaper on the back of the case dates it to around 1880. It is very impressive and is certainly a museum quality piece.
The glass case itself is beautiful and still has all the original glass which has that lovely old effect of almost looking wavy - you can definitely see its age and authenticity. The case structure is made out of a dark wood, probably mahogany.
