Copper Port & Starboard Lamps
with original oil burners
circa 1960
Lovely matching pair of ship's lamps manufactured by the Tung Woo company of Hong Kong in the mid 20th century. They are made of copper with brass fittings and stamped PORT and STARBOARD. Port has red glass and starboard has blue. They are a corner shape, being rounded at the front coming from a 90 degree angle at the back. They have a handle to enable hanging and also a bracket on the side panel. Inside they both have their original oil burners and reflectors.
Approximate Measurements:
Height : 9" (23cm)
Width : 6" (15cm)
Depth : 5" (13cm)
They are in good original condition. The copper has been lightly cleaned and polished in order to retain the aged patina on the copper but they could of course be polished to a higher standard if required. The glass is original and undamaged and both lights display very well. There are a few small knocks and small dents to the copper body here and there but nothing major. I have not tested the oil burners but there is no reason why they should not work. It would also be possible to convert the lights to electricity with a little bit of know-how and some basic electrical equipment.
