Clarice Cliff Biscuit Barrel
in the 'Delecia Pansies' pattern
circa 1933
Unusual biscuit barrel produced by Clarice Cliff in the 1930s in the popular and vibrant Panies pattern. The design is handpainted pink, yellow and purple pansies on a delecia ground. The barrel is complete with its lid and its original woven handle. It is so obviously Clarice Cliff and screams of the abstract Art Deco designs that she has become famous for. It is signed on the underside "Bizarre by Clarice Cliff. Wilkinson Ltd England".
Approximate Measurements :
Total Height with Handle: 8" (20cm)
Height of Barrel : 5 1/2" (14cm)
Width : 6" (15cm)
It is in good condition for its age and it is remarkable that it still has its original handle. The colours have remained generally bright and vibrant and the piece has been well looked after without suffering any major damages. There is just a very small chip on the inner rim under the lid which I have photographed.
The piece displays beautifully and is a rare example - a fine addition to anybody's collection. The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions at all please ask.
