Georgian Oak Bureau
A superb Georgian oak bureau dating from the late 18th Century. It has 3 drawers below a sloped front enclosing a fitted interior with an arrangment of small drawers and pigeon holes. The drawers have brass plate handles with matching engraved brass escutcheons. The fitted interior is good quality with small brass knobs and a sliding floor revealing an extra storage compartment. It comes with its original working key for the sloped top section.
It is in good original condition and has developed a wonderful rich colour. The piece has been thoroughly cleaned and gently polished, retaining the original patina. There are some signs of age and use, minor old shrinkage splits in the side panels and some small historic repairs but nothing detrimental and overall it displays very well. The handles are not original but are in-keeping with the style of the piece and suit it well. The oak lined drawers open smoothly and are generally clean and tidy inside with a few small old splits and ink stains. It is strong and sturdy and is ready for use.
